THE MUSICAL ALPHABET
The musical alphabet only has SEVEN letters
A-B-C-D-E-F-G
With only these seven letters you can create any song in the whole world!!!!
Once you reach G the pattern simply starts all over again like this....
A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A.....

THE PIANO KEYBOARD
The picture below shows the pitches of piano keyboard.  These notes start on the left end of the keyboard and the pattern is repeated all the way to the right end of the keyboard.
The order of pitches is C-D-E-F-G-A-B.
Once you have reached the pitch B the pattern simply repeats itself starting again on C.  So when put together the pattern looks like this....
C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C...

OCTAVES
Every time you go from one pitch name and move up or down the keyboard to the next key with same pitch name it is called an OCTAVE.
For example:
C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C  (this would be ONE OCTAVE)
G-A-B-C-D-E-F-G (this would also be ONE OCTAVE)

WHOLE STEPS AND HALF STEPS
The piano keyboard is laid out in a series of half steps.
When you move from one key to another without skipping a white or black key this is called a
 HALF STEP.
When you move from one key to another and skip ONE white or black key this is called a
WHOLE STEP.
