Music and Music Technology Vocabulary


 MUSIC
MUSIC-The organization of sounds with some degree of rhythm, melody, and harmony.

PITCH-The highness or lowness of a tone, as determined by the number of vibrations in the sound.

NOTE-The symbol which, when placed on a staff with a particular clef sign, indicates pitch.

BEAT- a musical pulse or unit of time / the steady pulse of music.

RHYTHM-The term which denotes the organization of sound in time; the temporal quality of sound.

DYNAMICS-Varying degrees of loud and soft.






 MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

HARDWARE-Machines and other physical equipment directly involved in performing an industrial, technological, or military function.


SOFTWARE-The programs, routines, and symbolic languages that control the functioning of the hardware and direct its operation.


SYNTHESIZER-An instrument that generates sound by the creation and manipulation of artificial waveforms.

RECORD--To play (record) information on a track in real time, replacing any previously recorded data.

MIDI-Musical Instrument Digital Interface

AUDIO-A type of recording that results in sound waves.
